About

Twelve years giving shape to other people's ideas

I am Lucas Blas, a graphic designer and illustrator. Since 2014 I have worked at the point where a brand stops being a hunch and becomes something you can see, print and defend in front of a client.

How it started

I came in through the back door: I was paid pocket money to put together flyers for neighbourhood bands, with stolen typefaces and impossible deadlines. Then came four years inside other people's studios, doing retouching, artwork files and eighty-page catalogues reviewed at three in the morning. It was a hard school and I am grateful for it.

How I work now

I have been on my own since 2018. Before I open a file I ask uncomfortable questions: who is this talking to, what has to happen after someone sees it, what was tried before and why it did not work. Half the projects that arrive as "I need a logo" turn out to be something else. I always hand over usage guidelines and editable files: an identity nobody knows how to apply dies within six months.

What I specialise in

  • Visual identity and brand systems
  • Logotype design
  • Printed pieces and packaging
  • Ads and advertorials
  • Social media content
  • Editorial and cover illustration
  • Children book illustration
  • Art direction for campaigns

If you made it this far, you probably have something on your hands. Tell me what it is, in your own words, without tidying it up too much. The messy version is usually the better starting point.
